A fan suffered cardiac arrest at an English match and passed away in the hospital

Football News Update

On January 13, during the 28th round Championship match between Bolton and Cheltenham, the game took a somber turn as, on the 13th minute, home fan Iain Purslow fell ill. Referee Sunny Sukhvir Gill promptly halted the match, leading the players off the field.

Medical personnel from both teams rushed to assist Purslow, who was subsequently taken to the hospital by ambulance. Despite the efforts of the local hospital staff, 71-year-old Purslow passed away on January 14 in the intensive care unit due to cardiac arrest.

“Bolton Wanderers is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of lifelong supporter Ian Purslow,” states the official statement from Bolton.

As a club with a rich history, including four FA Cup victories (1923, 1926, 1929, 1958) and the country’s Super Cup in 1958, Bolton currently holds the 3rd place in League One, the third-tier division, with 51 points. Portsmouth, the league leader, has 53 points. The loss of a dedicated supporter has undoubtedly cast a shadow over the club and its community during this difficult time.
