According to reports from Spanish media, David Alaba, who was forced off due to injury during the Real Madrid vs Chelsea quarter-final match, has suffered a muscle tear. This means that the Austrian player is expected to be sidelined for two to three weeks. This news comes as a major blow for Real Madrid, as Alaba will miss several upcoming matches, including the King’s Cup final against Osasuna on May 6 and the crucial Champions League semi-final against Manchester City on May 9 and 17. With Eder Militao also suspended for the first leg, coach Carlo Ancelotti may have to rely on Antonio Rudiger and Nacho as his central defensive pairing.

Injuries have curtailed the 2023 season.

David Alaba, who is in his second season in Spain, has been struggling with physical setbacks, particularly in 2023. Since the beginning of the year, the former nine-time Bundesliga champion has been absent for a total of 13 games, which is equivalent to a 53-day absence in just four months. These are alarming statistics that highlight his susceptibility to injuries, a concern that was already evident during his time at Bayern Munich. Real Madrid, however, remains hopeful that the Austrian defender will make a speedy recovery and be available for the upcoming crucial matches against Manchester City. With the daunting task of facing Erling Haaland and his teammates, Real Madrid will need their entire defensive lineup to be at full strength.
